Daily Prompt: Fight or Flight

Prompt from here.
Had fun writing this one~
A short fic!
Enjoy.

Out of all the things I could’ve had, this one chose to happen today.

Doubt has always been my friend ever since I knew it.
It hasn’t been the best one, but it’s always there in the times of importance.
My dear, dear friend.

Like when I was ten.
The white tutu was on.
And the spotlights were, too.
Every parent’s eyes were on me.
Flight or flight?
My dear friend said, Flee!
I didn’t listen.
I fought.
I lost.

Or when I was eighteen.
The dresses, the suits, and the make-believe crown.
The sash – oh, the damned sash.
Every audience’s eyes were on me.
Fight or flight?
My dear friend said, Flee!
I didn’t listen.
I fought.
I lost.

Now it’s here again.
Now, even when I’m twenty-six.
The grand white dress, the pristine aisle, and the diamond ring.
And the love of my life, I think.
Every guest’s eyes were on me.
Fight on flight?
My friend said, Flee!
This time, I listened.

“I do… not.”

Hurry X’mas ©mk17design

This year I’m thankful for 2012.

I graduated.
I got a job.
I’ll be abroad to work.
It’ll be my second Christmas and New Year away from home.
It’ll be the first time I’ll be spending both days working (yep).

I’m thankful for this gigantic Christmas tree in Central Park (in Jakarta, it’s not a park).
I’m thankful for every snowflakes-decorate Starbucks glass.
I’m thankful for my wonderful, supportive family and friends.
I’m thankful for the empty suitcase downstairs waiting to be filled for my next trip.
I’m thankful for every half-downloaded torrents (and wishing it’d be done soon).
I’m thankful for this imperfect and awesome life.

Anyway.
Thank you, 2012, for not making your movie came true.

Sincerely,
MK.

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die~

There are indeed so many dumb ways to die.
Thank you Melbourne Metro for making this video.

Set fire to your hair
Poke a stick at a grizzly bear
Eat medicines that’s out of date
Use your private parts as piranha bait

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Get your toast out with a fork
Do your own electrical work
Teach yourself how to fly
Eat a two week old unrefrigerated pie

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Invite a psycho-killer inside
Scratch your drug dealer’s brand new ride
Take your helmet off in outer space
Use your clothes dryer as a hiding place

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Keep a rattlesnake as pet
Sell both the kidneys on the internet
Eat a tube of superglue
“I wonder what’s this red button do?”

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Dress up like a moose during hunting season
Disturb a nest of wasps for no good reason
Stand on the edge of a train station platform
Drive around the boom gates at a level crossing
Run across the tracks between the platforms
They may not rhyme but they’re quite possibly

Dumbest ways to die ie
Dumbest ways to die
Dumbest ways to die
So many dumb
So many dumb ways to die

Be safe around trains.

Daily Prompt: Coming To a Bookshelf Near You

Prompt from here.
Really wanted to finish my script but… gah.

Jakarta, one of the most complicated cities in the world.

It has more layers than an onion;
More population than a 661km² city should have;
More financial activities than the world think it has;
More fun than you can imagine;

And more madmen than you’d want to know…

Daily Prompt: Set It To Rights

This short fic is actually half a prompt
But you get my point.
I hope.

What a wonderful way to start a day.

She woke up to find herself still buried under a blanket, feeling warm and fuzzy all over even when the glass windows showed her it was snowing outside. The smell of coffee and fresh pastries seeped through the bedroom door as if making sure she gets up soon. And that was a nice dream she had, too. Not exactly unicorns and macarons, but she dreamt of someone. She smiled, closing her eyes again and sighed, snuggling at the source of the said warmth lying next to her. Five more minutes…

‘Morning.’

Her eyes jerked open at sudden greeting. Something was off. She went rigid, pulling herself away in reflex.

‘What’s wrong?’ he muttered, propping himself on his elbow. She merely took a deep breath. To think that “the third’s day’s a charm” was not always proven.

‘Nothing,’ she breathed.

He laid back but didn’t take his eyes off her. ‘Bad dream?’

‘No.’ It wasn’t a lie. He would think it was, but it wasn’t. ‘Just… something from the past.’

Her dreams were always nice. In her dreams there was that certain someone. In her dreams she was happy. In her dreams there was no war, and she had never met the man now staring at her with a disbelieved look on his face. In her dreams she woke up to a pair of brown eyes instead of blue. But then the universe conspired against her and decided to wake her up from all those every single morning. She sighed and flopped back on the bed.

What a wonderful way to start a day.

Prompt from here.
All taken with Samsung Galaxy SII and processed on Instagram.

Left to right, top to bottom:

  1. A pack of Lays I bought in Turkey just because I’ve never seen the yoghurt and herb flavour in where I live… It’s really good, by the way.
  2. My alma mater’s Keep Calm tee!
  3. The Puma shoes I got from Seoul last summer. My old Converse died and I buried it there, too.
  4. Nami Island in South Korea. Famous from its drama Winter Sonata, which I have no idea what it’s about even when I got there.
  5. A statue of the said drama in the said island, starring Bae Yong Jun and Choi Ji Woo. Pardon my Korean.
  6. Still in Nami Island, something that has got something to do with a scene in the drama. I still haven’t watched it.
  7. The rooftop of Shinsegae, a department store in Busan, South Korea. It was epically hot in summer but I couldn’t help being amazed by the vibrant colours of the whole garden.
  8. Green rose. Bet you’ve never seen one. I found it in a St Mary grotto in Lembang, West Java, when I was in a pilgrimage.
  9. The German football shirt I had on when Euro 2012 final was on… Felt like betraying my love for Casillas the whole match, but then again whoever wins I can never be let down :p

Daily Prompt: IMHO – Skyfall

Prompt from here.
News selected is this one, which is of course…

Who hasn’t watched the latest Bond movie?
I mean, come on, people.

It has Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ben Whishaw, and Voldemort Ralph Fiennes. Could you ask for a more epic casts from the mighty Queen’s reign?

Ever since Craig became Bond, the character changed quite a lot for me.
James Bond is now less of a womaniser and more of a man of action.
He is more… human.

He’s getting old in a sense of sticking to the old ways of espionage.
This is explicitly shown by featuring the brand new quartermaster – Q, starring Ben Whishaw – who, as Bond claimed, still “has spots on his face”.

Q10

“Exploding pens? We don’t make them anymore.”

Bond is old school. He’s that classic guy in the spy movie with a Walther PPK strapped to his belt. And then this sassy young quartermaster came up telling him that he could do more damage without moving more muscles than Bond does.

What are they doing?
They’re updating Bond to 2012.

This is when Bond and his exploding pens (or exploding whatever) evolved into something new, something that could actually happen in the time when one single person can tear the world apart with a click, in his bedroom, in his pajamas, before his morning coffee. And I like it.

Regarding the fact that I think Silva’s planned arrest and release resembles Moriarty’s, same plans in “The Reichenbach Falls” (BBC Sherlock, season 2 episode 3), the point of transforming Bond movies into the newer and more high-tech mindset is epic.

Many – I’m sorry to have to use this term regarding the franchise – fangirls are telling me that they’re disappointed to see less charming Bond and even less role of Bond Girl, but this post’s topic is “IMHO”, so I’d have to disagree with them.

Craig is an excellent Bond. He made the character more of what he should be in the first place. A spy. Not just this emotionless, perfect killing machine, and most of all not this guy who mixes business with pleasure all the time, but a human.

Aside from the new Q, in Skyfall we also see the end of Judi Dench’s M into Voldemort Ralph Fiennes’s M. And how Moneypenny ended up being his secretary. If those weren’t enough renewal for you, I don’t know what is.

Before ending my opinion post on this movie, let’s talk a bit about its official soundtrack.

The Skyfall theme song is co-written and sung beautifully by one of our favourite English artists nowadays. I intentionally didn’t open the teaser link to the song before I get to watch the movie, because I wanted to hear it first while seeing the legendary opening scene, graphics and all – and you know what? It’s worth the wait.

Adele’s voice is epic. The song is epic. The graphics are epic. Everything is epic to the point that I literally forgot that I’m in the cinema for a few minutes. I just love it. It’s such a great companion to the movie and overall I’m giving all aspects of the whole package 5 stars.

Now you can relax and enjoy the song below.
